He explains in a fair amount of detail how to pack the kernel into appropriately sized overlays.<br /><br />If you have a Windows system handy, Jörg Hoppe has written an <a href="http://retrocmp.com/how-tos/installing-211bsd-unix-on-pdp-1144/120-installing-211bsd-kernel-setup" rel="nofollow">application that will generate an appropriate Makefile</a> with the kernel overlays ordered correctly.
